Controversial Photographs
Sisley Fashion Junkie These photographs are about fashion addicted women, the women seem to be indulging in the act of snorting the drugs and they are using dresses to represent heroine and alcohol, it is also showing some cocaine on the credit card. They don't look very appealing and neither do the clothes. - Is this really sending out the right message to the younger generation? - Is it morally/ethically right? - Is it attracting attention for the wrong reasons? |

Capturing Movement Task
In this task I explored movement. I looked at the types of actions and movements people make with objects: such as the juggler trying to keep a balance between his body, the fire and the balls, as well as the rhythm of his movement. I also captured people in a skating area doing tricks with their bikes and skateboards, with a high shutter speed i could capture the way their bodies moved every time they jumped up from the ground; twisting, turning and rotating to create interesting shapes. I found that some of the images where blurred and the high speed also effected the lighting of photographs, i could use a tripod next time and also think about the space so that i get even lighting. At home I experimented with the movement of water by asking someone to throw the water while I took the photo at a high shutter speed to capture the water at good accuracy.
< This photograph: with the water thrown across the frame and the bucket in the air, reminded me of Philippe Halsman's work. He is know to have flying furniture, people in mid-aor, floating cats and water across the picture frame. He plays with still life photography by creating movement and making real life motion 'still'. I find it interesting as it plays with your imagination and the way we look at reality/non-reality. |
I also wanted to take photographs of animals and movements they create. I went to a stable and took these pictures of the horse while he was moving at both fast and slow movements. The images where successful however, i would of liked to get more angles but the horse was not let loose so this was restricting. At high shutter speeds i could capture the horses feet lifting from the ground and also the different angles he created - especially when bending to one side when trotting around quickly. Overall this task worked well, i could in the future improve the technicality e.g. lighting and focusing.
